Seven years ago, we had a dream of building a home for public radio in Cincinnati and in less than six months we will be moving to Evanston into a beautiful, sustainable and welcoming building.
We began planning and fundraising when the pandemic hit, so we put our plans on hold temporarily as we focused on keeping everyone informed and entertained and our staff safe during a difficult time. Fast forward to 2024 and the beautiful, sustainable and welcoming building Cincinnati Public Radio will soon call home.
This move is a brave one, but it’s necessary. We’ve been renting space on Central Parkway for decades, but this block is being reimagined and it’s only a matter of time before it will be redeveloped with no plans for space for public radio.
The new building is more than a new home for WVXU, WGUC and WMUB – it’s the future of public media. It’s access to the park next door for family events; it’s a gathering space for the community concerts and debates; and it’s a state-of-the-art studio where we can host live broadcasts with an audience. We’ll also have a community podcast studio so anyone can create their own podcast!
Protecting these local stations so we can continue to serve listeners like you is our highest priority – and this new building is a big part of our plan. By the end of January, we will have access to the building, and in late April, we’ll invite you to our Welcome Weekend celebration and open house. Stay tuned!
