Production Services & Performance Studio

Cincinnati Public Radio’s Performance Studio is a world-class recording and production space designed by the Walters-Storyk Design Group for exceptional acoustic clarity and warmth. The 915-square-foot live room features a nine-foot Steinway Concert D grand piano and a curated collection of vintage and modern microphones. The control room is centered around an Avid S6 console with premium outboard gear, supporting both stereo and 7.1 surround mixing. For video production, the studio features professional lighting and four remote cameras for flexible, multi-angle coverage.

Live Room & Booths

  • Isolation Booths: Two booths (125 sq. ft. and 140 sq. ft.) perfect for vocals and solo instruments

  • High-End Outboard Gear: Classics from Urei, API, SSL, and more
  • 32-channel mic preamps from Millenia, Grace Designs, and Neve

  • Extensive microphone collection featuring vintage Neumann, AKG, Sennheiser models alongside modern classics from Royer and Earthworks
Monitoring
  • ATC 9-inch 3-way speakers for precise stereo monitoring
  • Genelec 10-inch speakers for immersive 7.1 surround sound monitoring
  • ADAM Audio 15-inch subwoofers for deep low-frequency response
Video Production
  • Video Control Room: Equipped with Blackmagic Design gear
  • Camera Setup: Remote access to multiple HD cameras throughout the facility—including three in the live room and one in the control room—plus two additional 4K cameras for flexible multi-angle video capture.
  • Professional Lighting Rig: 28 lights, including 8 RGB fixtures, for versatile ambiance and recording.

Our lead engineer and CCM alum, Brian Niesz, brings versatile expertise across classical, jazz, and contemporary music, ensuring top-quality results across genres. He also leads video production, leveraging extensive experience from WCPO 9 News.
