Education: Brian earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Electronic Media from the CollegeConservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, where he served as Vice-President of
the Audio Engineering Society. As a student, he recorded a significant number of classical
performances, including those by the CCM Philharmonia, the Tokyo String Quartet, and
many other ensembles.

Experience

Brian Niesz is a classically trained recording engineer with a comprehensive background in audio production and live sound mixing. After earning his degree from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, Brian began his career as an assistant mastering engineer at Queen City Audio. He then advanced to a staff recording
engineer role at UltraSuede Studio, where he worked with prominent Cincinnati artists such as Wussy and Heartless Bastards. His expertise in live sound led him to tour nationally, providing mixing services for acts including Heartless Bastards, Generationals, and WHY?.

In 2004, Brian expanded his portfolio by mixing live “Lounge Acts” sessions at WOXY.com, collaborating with hundreds of indie and alternative artists, including Frank Black (Pixies), Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and Portugal. The Man.


Following WOXY’s closure, Brian joined WCPO 9 News, contributing to the Insider subscription news program. There, he established and managed the “Digital Lounge,” a studio dedicated to digital-first content production. He also developed and produced multiple podcasts and partnered with journalists to elevate digital storytelling through
innovative multimedia content.

In 2025, Brian joined Cincinnati Public Radio as a recording engineer for its Performance Studio located at their new Dana Avenue facility, continuing his commitment to high quality audio production and live performance recording
