Your Musical Companion Each Evening

Megan Lavilla’s love of classical music began early in life, like still in the cradle early. Her mom, a music lover, shared that love with little Megan by keeping music in the house and in her life. She tells us where it all began.

“It started with those Baby Mozart CD’s. Then as I grew up, I listened to a lot of my mom’s favorite, James Galway. He was a big reason I took up the flute.”

“But the turning point, the one piece of music that connected with me like no other and made me realize music was going to be a huge part of my life was the soundtrack to the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. How that music complemented the story, almost as its own character, just triggered this awakening inside me.”

“Hans Zimmer is my favorite composer. I’ve seen him live a couple times and how he puts music, original music, to this wide array of films is just amazing to me.”

“While in school, I played flute, sang in youth choirs, even sang onstage with my two sisters in a Dayton Opera production of The Magic Flute. The director liked how our voices blended when we auditioned so we got to play the 3 spirits.”

“I studied Media Production with a minor in Music at UC’s CCM so when coming to WGUC was a possibility, it felt like putting all my strengths together in one job. I get to share such a wide array of music with our audience. I’m a big fan of music that incorporates a country’s indigenous music like Dvorak and Sibelius. I find tremendous emotions in some of the newer composers who are still writing and creating in the world we live in. And of course, there are always new movie soundtracks, even video game music which is tremendously creative.”

“I’m grateful to all the listeners who have reached out with comments, suggestions and compliments. WGUC listeners have a knowledge and a passion that keeps me on my toes.”
